Our Pastor
I am a native of Edisto Island, South Carolina. A committed vessel whose focus is to live, preach and teach the unadulterated Gospel of Jesus Christ. On June 5, 1976, I married my high school sweetheart the Mrs. Eunice Howard Evans and we have been blessed with forty-eight years of marriage and from that union we have been blessed with four children, Arthur, Jr., Shara Elaine, Jimith Javel and Clayton Terrell. We are the proud and adoring grandparents of fourteen grandchildren. I am a military retiree who proudly served this country as a member of the United States Airforce for 20 years, which included being a survivor of the Desert Storm Campaign.
During my sophomore year of high school, I was saved and accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior. I was then baptized on July 15, 1973, at the New First Missionary Baptist Church Edisto Island, South Carolina under the pastorate of the Reverend, Tony L. Daise. The call to the Gospel Ministry began at Revelation Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend Willie E. Tucker in Tucson, Arizona. My call to the Gospel ministry was realized at 2:00 am in October 1978 and I was licensed to preach after teaching a Sunday School Class on December 31, 1978.
I have served in several formidable capacities during the course of the ministry; Associate Minister of Revelation Baptist Church in Tucson, Arizona, (1978-1979) Associate Minister to the Pastor of New First Baptist Church, Edisto Island, South Carolina, (1979-1982) Pastor of 1230 Gospel Service, Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota (1982-1980) Assistant Pastor of the Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church Goldsboro, North Carolina (1988-1994) and Senior Pastor from 1994 to 2007, Adjunct Professor of New Testament, Old Testament University f Mount Olive, Mount Olive, North Carolina from (2002 to 2007.) I most recently served as Senior Pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church of Charleston, South Carolina for over fifteen years from 2007 – 2022.
My educational background consists of: Associate’s Degree in Applied Science from the Community College of the Air Force; Bachelor of Arts in Psychology Minot State University, Minot North Dakota; Master of Science in Administration Central Michigan University; Master of Divinity with Christian Education and a Doctor of Ministry from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, North Carolina.
Actively served in numerous community and ministerial alliances in the following capacities; Bear Creek Missionary Baptist Association Christian Education Director, Ordination Council Secretary, Executive Board Member, Building Fund Member, Budget Committee member, Chair of the Constitution and Bylaws Committee, Chairman of the Board of Directors HGDC (Holy Ghost Drawing Center) Crisis Center Goldsboro North Carolina, Chairman of Goldsboro Aid Interfaith Network (GAIN), member of the Programs Planning Committee of the General Baptist of North Carolina during the tenure of Reverend. Dr. Fuller, and member of C.L.I.F.F (Clergy Living in Faith and Fellowship) Ministerial Alliance of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Lifelong member of the NAACP.
Served on the Mayor of Charleston South Carolina’s Affordable Housing Task Force, Charleston Area Justice Ministry Executive Board Member, Charleston County Missionary Baptist Association Executive Board Member. Director and Instructor of the Morris College Extension Ministerial Certificate Program of Charleston, South Carolina.
On May 21, 2024, I accepted the position as Senior Pastor of St. James Baptist Church becoming the 15th pastor in its rich history and steadfast presence on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. I began taking the helm with my pastoral duties on Sunday June 2, 2024.
I am a proud Servant in the Kingdom of Jesus Christ Our Lord and Savior. Greetings to you all in the name of Jesus Christ and I bare record that HE is the Son of God.
